We’re committed to doing good for humans, pets and the planet — and that's why we've partnered with TerraCycle® to create our national recycling program for KARMA™ dog food bags. By recycling your empty KARMA™ dog food packaging, you can help us ensure there’s less waste and more good in the world. (Plus, fewer landfills means more room for dog parks!) Keep reading to learn about TerraCycle® and the KARMA™ dog food bag recycling program.
What is TerraCycle® and How Does the Recycling Program Work?
TerraCycle® works with brands and companies to collect typically nonrecyclable or hard-to-recycle materials and turn them into new products. So far, they’ve diverted millions of pounds of resources from landfills.
So, how can you use their program to recycle your empty KARMA™ bags? The good news is that it’s easy — and free! Here’s what to do:
1. Join:
First, you’ll need to sign up for the program. (If you need to create an account, click here).
As you can see, it’s a pretty simple process, but TerraCycle® does have a few best practices to keep in mind. Remember to only ship your box when it’s full of empty, dry pet food bags so that you’re minimizing the transportation carbon footprint for this program. You don’t need to clean the packaging before you send it to TerraCycle®, but try to remove any stray pieces of kibble. And lastly, make sure your items are completely dry before you ship — UPS (understandably) doesn’t accept wet or dripping packages.
2. Collect:
Once you’ve signed up, start collecting empty KARMA™ bags in a cardboard box or shipping container. (Any box you have will do!)

3. Print label:
Once your box is full of empty bags, log in to your account to download and print a shipping label.

What Else Do You Need to Know?
You may be curious about what happens to your empty bags once you’ve shipped them off. First, the bags are cleaned. Then they’re melted and remolded to make new recycled products — like park benches and pet toys. (So cool, right?)
And finally, you might be interested to know that you can earn rewards for participating in the KARMA™ recycling program. You’ll earn 100 points for every pound you ship. (Each KARMA™ dry pet food bag you send in is worth about 5 points.) You can use your earned points for a number of charitable gifts or redeem them to support the nonprofit or school of your choice.
We are proud to partner with TerraCycle® to help keep our empty packaging from ending up in landfills, and we hope you’ll join us on our mission to care for both our pets and the planet.
