A role model and tastemaker in self-expression, Taylor Blake started creating comedic videos in hopes of creating a safe space to explore taboo topics. Growing up in a conservative community in Florida, she realized early on that there is a huge need for authentic role models in the LGBTQIA+ community. Taylor wants to be for others, everything she needed growing up but didn’t have. This year, she and her girlfriend, Kristian Haggerty, have taken to living life on the road in their adorable 1996 16ft Casita. The pandemic put a lot into perspective for many people, us included. We spent the majority of the lockdown as two small town girls living in the big city of Los Angeles, all the while knowing it wasn’t a lifestyle we wished to maintain. We wanted freedom. We missed the feeling of earth beneath our bare feet. We longed to hear the sound of wind rustling through the trees. Once our lease ended, we embarked on a lifestyle change that would quickly alter the course of our entire lives. From Melrose, to the open road, we purchased a 16ft camper and dedicated our lives to living freely and giving back to our community and Mother Earth as often as possible.
We live in a society that preaches “less is more” while falling into the trap of unsustainable consumerism, in an attempt to impress those around us. After minimizing everything we owned, it became easier for us to see the importance of supporting sustainable brands that aligned with our lifestyle. When we support brands that are giving back to our planet, we support our future selves in the process. Of course, it doesn’t stop with us. As we delved into supporting local farmers and eating a more plant-first diet, it also quickly became apparent that it was important for us to feed our dogs a plant-first food as well. We are so incredibly grateful to have found a brand like KARMA™ Pet Food. The KARMA™ brand is dedicated to loving our planet as much as we love our pets, with its recyclable packaging through a partnership with Terracycle and recipes crafted with plant-based superfoods plus sustainably sourced white fish or real chicken.
Our goal is to buy a few acres in the mountains, and sustain ourselves with what we sow from the land we inhabit. We hope to one-day give back to our community and planet with the food and resources we harvest sustainably. The path to achieving our dreams may be treacherous, but with small steps, we plan to make it a reality. We love supporting brands like KARMA™, that are working toward creating a sustainable future and protecting our beautiful planet in the process. If any of you are contemplating taking a leap of faith and embarking towards a more sustainable lifestyle, here’s my advice: Don’t be too hard on yourself, you don’t have to have it all figured out, be patient and remember, each small effort matters!
